Unknown amount of time in pencil (.5 blue and red leads, .3 HB lead, 2B technical) in sketchbook.
Okay, get ready for a huge dump of sketches. I’m now moved into my new apartment and I’ve got my work area mostly set up. I’m working on a dual screen setup but the basics are all here. More importantly, I have my scanner! So, here’s a few sketches I did of Rue once I finished reading The Hunger Games (and long before I saw the movie) and one of a very random girl, possibly a hacker doing a victory dance? She’s the only recent sketch I don’t have a story to go with so she’s lumped with Rue to save space and your dash. I’ve got five more coming that I’ll be uploading as I finishing typing backstories.
Time unknown. Color in Photoshop, sketch in pencil.
Oh, hey, I finally finished this! Based on a song that may or may not exist on Patrick Stump’s album Soul Punk. Pick it up on iTunes if you don’t have it already. Hopefully, I’ll be posting a bit more soon. We’ll see what I can come up with.
Varying amounts of time in Photoshop.
I figured I should upload some of the things I’ve poked at recently so here you go. The (backburnered) portrait to a song that may or may not exist. (Or you could buy Patrick Stump’s Soul Punk and keep listening after “Run Dry” ends…) Some process on a sketch of Belit from the current Conan the Barbarian. Becky Cloonan might be my biggest art inspiration ever, let me tell you. A very random cephalopodic mermaid doodle. A little something done to “Bottom of the River” by Delta Rae. I promise I’m not dead and there’s stuff posted to my instagram fairly often. So go check that out too!
Less than 40 minutes in Sketchbook Pro.
I got bored waiting for the call for my interview so this happened. Marceline the Vampire Queen and Every Time I Die lyrics, that makes perfect sense, right? Right? The lyrics are from “Revival Mode” on Ex Lives, out March 6th. Go have a listen here! Marceline is from Adventure Time. I’m going to assume most people have at least heard of it. Okay? Okay. Just… going to go ahead and post this now.
Pencil, ballpoint pen, and Copic marker on bristol.
These are the seven (when did I do this many?!) non-commission sketches from Wizard World Chicago this past weekend. Mostly just something to keep myself busy and so I have stuff to return from con with. Most of these will be made into prints in the near future so keep an eye out for that. We have…
I’m also including my DC ladies sketch cards, since I have no idea if I ever posted them. For reference, we have Harley Quinn, Zatanna Zatara, Poison Ivy, Catwoman, Power Girl, and Batwoman.
There, an art dump for the ages. Phew.
Approximately 1.5 hours in Photoshop.
So I sketched a Lady Loki? Just something fun to do while listening to Black Cards today. I saw one on my dash and I’d been staring at the McQueen Resort ‘11 collection a lot so I did my best to bring the two together a little. Ummm, yeah. Enjoy. I don’t have terribly much else to say about this one. Maybe I’ll have more later. First, foods.
Based on “Big Hype” by Patrick Stump. Approximately 12-15 hours in Photoshop CS3.
Phew, finally finished! So, this is based on the aforementioned song from the Truant Wave EP/audio of it live/memory. I’m planning the (hopefully) give this to him at his show with Janelle Monae and Bruno Mars (fyi, try to catch the Hooligans In Wonderland tour if you can!) in Grand Prairie soon. After that, I’ll start selling prints. I’m actually kind of happy with this. I tried some new things and they came out pretty okay I think and it was fun. I kind of missed just losing myself in a piece. Much singing along and dancing in my seat while working on this.
Work in progress. Based on “Porcelain” from @PatrickStump’s EP, Truant Wave. Some ridiculous number of hours and counting.
This is slowly reminding me why I rarely digitally paint lineless anymore: I have a tendency to overwork things and shove at tiny details I would normally just use a few lines to imply until I hate and nitpick every single pixel. It’s tedious and it goes against, well, everything I try not to be. This could turn into a huge rant about simplicity in illustration and properly balancing it with detail and how I’m terrible at it but I’m too tired, I’ve been sitting in this chair too damned long, and I’m going to be doing the same thing tomorrow when I hopefully be able to look at it with some fresh eyes because I really don’t have that long to finish and I’m not really sure how to work the piece for Black Cards yet. Dearest internet, I am going to curl up in bed now. Good night.
About 2 hours or so total in Sketchbook Pro.
Nothing too exciting here, just doodling really. We have a Lyn-Z (of Mindless Self-Indulgence), Power Girl, and Poison Ivy. Full body, portrait, and half body. I’m tempted to do more with Ms. Ivy. I was singing Imogen Heap’s “Little Bird” to myself while working on that one. Unfortunately, I cannot draw birds that aren’t adorable and fat or semi-scary and wispy crows. Neither of these are really the sparrow I’d want to do. Whoops.
Now to go eat the dinner I was originally going to have…
